Averages a series de yearly investment returns e shows the difference between the simple average e the compound average, which é the one that matches what your money actually earned.
Como usar, passo a passo
- Enter the starting Valor.
- Enter Cada year’s return as a Porcentagem, using a negative Número por a Perda.
- Add ou remove anos.
O que significa cada campo
- Anual return – The Porcentagem Variação em that Ano, including losses.
Como ler os resultados
- Arithmetic Médio – The simple Média de the returns.
- Geometric Médio – The compound Anual Taxa that gives the same final Valor.
- Volatility – The sample standard deviation de the returns.
A fórmula
Geometric Médio = (Π (1 + rᵢ))^(1 ÷ n) − 1. Arithmetic Médio = Σ rᵢ ÷ n. Volatility = √(Σ (rᵢ − Média)² ÷ (n − 1)).
Um exemplo prático
Returns de 12%, −8%, 15%, 6% e 9% have an arithmetic average de 6.8% but a geometric average de 6.48%. 10,000 grows to 13,691.03, a total return de 36.91%, with a volatility of 8.93%.
Premissas e limites
- Annual returns are shown depois charges only if you enter them that way.
- Past returns do not predict future returns.
Erros comuns
- Using the simple Médio a project growth. It overstates compound returns.
- Entering −100% ou worse, which wipes out the investment.
