How to use the daily number puzzle
What it calculates and when to use it
A daily numbers game: reach the target number by combining six numbers with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Everyone gets the same puzzle each day, so you can compare times and share a result card. Practice mode gives unlimited puzzles.
How to use it, step by step
- Look at the target and the six numbers.
- Tap a number, then an operation, then a second number. The two numbers are replaced by the result.
- Keep combining until one of your numbers equals the target.
- Share your time, and come back tomorrow to keep your streak.
What each input means
- Mode – Today’s puzzle (the same for everyone, once a day) or Practice (unlimited new puzzles).
- Level – Easy: six numbers from 1 to 10 and a target from 20 to 100. Standard: one or two of 25, 50, 75 and 100 with four or five small numbers, and a target from 101 to 999.
How to read the results
- Time – From your first move to the moment you reach the target.
- Steps – How many calculations you used.
- Streak – Days in a row you have solved the daily puzzle on this device.
- One way to do it – A solution, shown after you finish or give up.
The formula
Each calculation must give a positive whole number: subtraction must not go below 1 and division must come out exactly. Each number can be used once, and you do not have to use all six.
A worked example
Target 813 with 100, 75, 6, 3, 9 and 2: 100 × 9 = 900, 75 + 6 = 81, 900 − 81 = 819, 3 × 2 = 6, 819 − 6 = 813.
Assumptions and limits
- Every daily puzzle has at least one exact solution.
- Today’s puzzle changes at midnight in your time zone.
- Streaks and times are stored only in this browser.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting that division must be exact: 7 ÷ 2 is not allowed.
- Using up the big numbers too early. Large targets are usually built from a product, then adjusted.
Frequently asked questions
Is it the same puzzle for everyone?
Yes. The daily puzzle is chosen from the date, so friends in any country see the same numbers on the same day.
What counts as a streak?
Solving the daily puzzle on consecutive days. Giving up ends the streak.
Is this like the Countdown numbers round?
Yes. The Standard level follows the same rules, so it is good practice.
