What each input means
- Mode – Daily puzzle: one Easy, one Medium and one Hard puzzle each day, the same for everyone, with a streak. Free play: a new puzzle whenever you like.
- Level – Mini 4 × 4, Junior 6 × 6, then Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert 9 × 9.
- Show mistakes as I type – Marks wrong numbers straight away.
How to read the results
- Grid – Clues in bold; your numbers in blue.
- Timer, mistakes and hints – Shown above the grid.
- Best times – Per level, on this device.
The formula
Puzzles are generated by filling a grid at random and removing clues while a solver still finds exactly one solution. Mini to Medium must be solvable with singles alone; Hard and Expert must need more.
A worked example
An Easy puzzle has about 37–38 clues and can be finished by finding cells with only one possible number. Expert has 22–26 clues and needs techniques such as pairs and pointing.
Assumptions and limits
- Progress is saved on this device until you start a new puzzle.
- Best times are not recorded when the solution is shown.
Common mistakes
- Guessing instead of using notes on Hard and Expert.
- Forgetting that each box, not just each row and column, must contain every number.
